Fee for Services

Before making a decision about home birth, it is important to understand what and how you will pay for your care. Many families decide not to have a home birth for financial reasons, yet many times they will pay a comparable amount for hospital services, if not more.

If your insurance plan does not have good coverage for hospital maternity services, or if you have a high deductible, you may spend more money on a hospital birth than you planned. For this reason, it is very important to understand your insurance policy.

However, home birth services are rarely covered in-full by insurance companies, so you may end up paying more for a home birth if you have better hospital coverage with your plan.

Even if your home birth is more costly than a hospital birth, many families accept the additional cost in exchange for the high quality of services given by a home birth midwife.

All families should have access to the birth they want, regardless of price. I strongly encourage any family interested in a home birth with Linden Tree Midwifery to schedule a consultation to discuss finances in depth.

For Families With Health Insurance

The fee for services varies from family to family depending on services received while in care. If you have health insurance, the total fee for services is the amount that I bill your insurance company.

Linden Tree Midwifery charges clients a deposit towards the total fee for services, in order to keep out-of-pocket expenses to a minimum.

The deposit for care with Linden Tree Midwifery is $4,000, which includes prenatal care, the labor and birth, and postpartum care. The deposit also includes a Childbirth Education Class and the insurance billing fee, should you choose to bill insurance.

$500 of the deposit is due at the first visit as a registration fee. The remaining $3,500 is due by 36 weeks, and can be paid in increments or as a lump sum, depending on the client’s preference.

There are additional services not included in the $4,000 deposit, including labs, ultrasounds, birth tub rental, and birth kits. Many of these services can be billed directly to your insurance or included in your total fee for services when billing insurance later.

Linden Tree Midwifery is not in-network with insurance companies. However, I do use SLB Billing Services to assist in your billing process to ensure the highest possible reimbursement for your care. However, a reimbursement is never guaranteed, so it is very important for families to be financially stable enough to pay $4,000 out-of-pocket for their care.

I also serve clients with Health Sharing Plans, such as Samaritan Ministries and Christian Healthcare Ministries. Depending on your plan, I can submit an estimated bill early in your care. In many cases, all of the costs associated with home birth are covered by these plans.
